MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
IMPORTANT
The weather for this classic painting holiday at La Rose des Vents, in the Charente Maritime, we hope will be perfect. It can be very hot at this time of the year and very bright. It is therefore advisable to wear a hat or eye shade and to use a suncream/block.
Basic Equipment
Lightweight folding chair or stool
Watercolour

2B or softer pencil, kneaded putty rubber, watercolour paper or water colour pad, or individual sheets 140lb/300gms (A4 minimum). Please do not try a cheaper paper eg photocopier paper, as the results can be devastating!

Watercolour brushes (be advised by your supplier as some acrylic brushes will not hold water). Sizes 2, 4, 6, 10 & 14

Porcelain or plastic palette well

Scotch tape or clips to secure paper to drawing board

Waterpot (there are collapsible, concertina-style water containers available in most UK art shops)

Paints - These range from student to professional quality and this is reflected in the price. The following colours are recommended:

Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Red, Light Red, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine, Prussian Blue or Indigo, Raw Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna

It is not necessary to buy black or any green colour. Greens can be mixed from the above colours.
Pastels
Charcoal

A good quality cartridge paper with a "bite" to hold the charcoal - there are also smooth papers available

Thin, medium and thick charcoal sticks are available individually sized or as a mix

Fixative

Canvas, oil paper, heavy weight cartridge paper or cardboard

If you are travelling by air with restricted luggage allowance, you may wish to have your materials supplied
If so, please state which media. Although there is alimited suply, easels and stools can be hired for 50 euros, for the duration of the course (refundable, if returned in good condition)
